The aim of GWOAC is to promote outdoor activities. The club is open to all and all are welcome.
The club was first set up in Stow over thirty years ago and initially became a focus for canoeing in Stow and the Borders. It then went on to promote orienteering and now is mainly involved with hill walking and climbing. The club is open to all ages, and all are welcome. Our current membership is spread out across the length and breadth of Scotland with a couple of members in Northern England.
The current focus of our activities is mainly hill walking and climbing with regular weekend meets in climbing club huts all over the Scottish Highlands. We have an occasional visit to the Lake District. We also organise day walks throughout the winter months and day cycles in the summer throughout the Borders. For the more adventurous, a small group of active members usually organise a summer trip each year to the European ranges. In recent years this has included trips to the Alps, Dolomites and to walk the GR20 in Corsica. Have a look at the pix from our latest adventures in France.
We also organise a selection of Sunday walks over the winter months locally in the Borders area. Details are circulated between club members, sometimes at short notice. If you’d like to join these walks, please join our club!
If you would like more information about the Club and forthcoming meets, please contact the Club & Meet

Please note that places in most huts are limited and we operate a first come first served basis for beds. Beds cannot be guaranteed but most huts have space to camp so there is not usually any problem with numbers. Attendees must be paid-up members of the Club and have paid an affiliation fee for membership to the Mountaineering Council for Scotland before they can use the huts.
If people are interested and wish a list of current organised meets contact Kenny or myself. Now that the new website is up and running we will try to update this site as soon as possible. The club welcomes anyone of any ability who is interested in walking/hillwalking
