Train service cuts being proposed.
ScotRail have launched a consultation on proposed service changes on the Edinburgh-Tweedbank line, which would be effective from the May 2022 timetable change next year.
The proposals reduce the entire service on the Borders Railway to hourly outside of the morning and evening peak times and cut all through-services to South Gyle and Fife. The first train will no longer connect with the 0625 London Kings Cross service at Waverley.
Whilst rail journeys reduced during the pandemic, leisure travel has increased significantly since May and is getting close to pre-pandemic levels. These proposals would therefore not see a return to the pre-lockdown frequency or an increase to Stow’s (current) hourly service.
The website includes a feedback form, and residents in the Gala Water valley and wider Borders region may wish to leave comments through the online feedback form, which is available here.
Stow Community Council will discuss the matter on 6 September at their next meeting, in Fountainhall Village Hall.
