At our first year’s AGM in August Chairman John Wilkinson reflected on: three successful concerts; two locally and the third at the Borders General Hospital raising £176 for the Margaret Kerr Hospice Appeal; more singers joining the choir than originally forecast; growing awareness of the choir with increasing invitations to contribute to other events; the great time we’re having making music together and that we’re financially solvent. We feel it’s been a great first year.
This season we’ve already been part of Stow & Heriot Kirks’ Celebration Concert where we unveiled our ‘new look’ – particularly well done to our men choristers for donning those bonny, bold ties! – and we’re currently rehearsing enthusiastically for our contribution to Stow Pensioners Christmas Lunch, a concert in Galashiels and our own concert ‘An Island Christmas’ in Stow Church on Sunday 16th December at 7pm. Tickets are £7, school age children have free entry with light refreshments included. Tickets from the shop or John on 01578 730289 and look out for posters nearer the time.
We’re also extending an invitation to other local music makers to join us in our concert on 16th December. If you play or sing, solo or with others, it would be great to hear from you. Even if you can’t make the December concert we’d be glad to make contact with a view to future events. Contact John on 01578 730289 or Paul on 01875 835331 if you’d like to have an initial chat.
And, as always, if you’d like be part of Gala Water Singers, remember there are no auditions and you don’t have to read music. We meet in Fountainhall School on Tuesdays from 7.30-9.00pm though it’s probably best to give John or Paul a ring to make sure we’re not having the occasional change of venue. We’re happy for you to try us out for a couple of weeks at no charge and you can be sure of a warm welcome.
