Most of you have never heard of the old 12th century Icelandic manuscript, the story of two brothers fighting for England, against Olaf the Red, King of Scotland. The battle took place at Vinheiði in 934. This is written in the manuscript as ; Egils Saga, capter 52., by Snorri Sturluson.
Vinheiði is in the Stow & Fountainhall Community. The battlefield was close to the river; Gala river, called Viná in the Icelandic story. I have informed Mr. Derek Alexander of National Trust for Scotland of this finding and by doing so, the finding is public. Mary Craig of Stow parish has informed Dr. Chris Bowles, archaeologist for the Scottis Borders of the finding but he is not familiar with the story in Egils Saga and has never read the Saga. Does not believe in the Story. I will come to you soon and dig up the grave of the dead brother, Þórólfur Skallagrímsson, buried close to the Gala river, and take him back home. Home to Iceland. You can expect many people from Iceland next year, visiting the grave site and the Battlefield at Vinheiði.

My cat Henry shy stripy boy was missing for 6weeks. I thought I had lost him. He looks well though so someone must have been feeding him. Was it you? If so thank you. I live at 11a Craigend road if you want to see him. I hope he stays with me as I’ve had him since he was born about 12years ago.

My Grandmother was born at Cookston Forth Mains in January 1878. I will be in Scotland in February and thought of going to Stow on the train. Does this place still exist. I think it may have been a farm –my Great Grandfather was a ploughman.
