Plans by the Scottish Boundaries Commission have been revealed which will change the Scottish Parliamentary constituency for the Gala Valley, based on constituency population changes across the country. Proposals can be viewed online here and the public are invited to comment.
Under the new plans, which affect the majority of Holyrood seats in Scotland, the Gala Valley will join a new constituency which crosses traditional county lines. The new seat, Clyde Valley and Tweeddale, will stretch from Lanark and West Linton, over to Oxton and Lauder in the east and south to Galashiels, Tweed Well and the Lowther Hills near Moffat. There will no longer be a connection to Midlothian, the historic county of the Gala Valley.
Constituents may give their opinions on these changes to the last (2011) boundaries review. The public consultation closes on 17 June 2023.
