Campaign for Borders Rail Feb Update

As anticipated in the previous newsletter, responsibility for progressing the railway was handed over to Network Rail with much fanfare at the Mining Museum in Newtongrange early last November. Just over a month later Network Rail announced that it had appointed BAM Nuttall as main contractor for the actual delivery of the railway in a £220m deal, and since then every household along the Gala Water should have received a letter outlining the anticipated timetable for the works. There will be a period of a few more months during which the advance works (ground investigation, devegetation and so on) will be finished off – there have already been much increased signs of activity along the trackbed – with construction proper starting in the spring. At that point access along the trackbed will no longer be possible so if you want to do any exploration along the railway, do it now.
